Celtics

The Boston Celtics are hot and cold with their play as they have been for the last several seasons, hinting at something greater only to stumble back into the disjointed work-in-progress they can’t seem to shed the identity of, and the uneven play has NBA analysts questioning the postseason ceiling of the team as a result.

In their most recent weekly power rankings, The Athletic reflected that chaotic shift back towards a worse version of themselves by dropping the team from 11th to 16th in the league, with analyst Zach Harper expressing his doubts about the team’s ability to secure better than a berth in the NBA’s play-in tournament.

“By many accounts, the locker room inside the Boston Celtics isn’t really fixed,” writes Harper.

“They’ve played somewhat better over the past month, but the Celtics still don’t seem connected on the court,” adds the Athletic analyst.

“Jayson Tatum’s leadership and approach to offense are being questioned, sometimes vaguely by new coach Ime Udoka. They missed Jaylen Brown for a bunch of games, but the Celtics just don’t have a sense of team and ball movement on offense. Good news for them is their defensive abilities are back, so it’s helping them stay afloat in the East.”

“But they’re mostly beating up on bad teams and hoping to survive against non-losing teams,” he observed.
